CMS Reminds Providers that New Medicare Claims Submission Deadlines are Approaching

Richard P. Kusserow | December 2010

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released guidance reminding providers and that the deadline for submitting claims with a date of service on or after January 1, 2010 is fast approaching.  In order to receive Medicare payments and avoid any denied claims, providers must submit claims by December 31, 2010.  Section 6404 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) established this new time limit for filing Medicare fee-for-service claims.  Providers and suppliers now have one calendar year (12 months) from the date of service to submit a claim for Medicare payments.  By December 31, 2010, providers must also submit any claims for services rendered between October 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009.
