The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently release a final rule to eliminate the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB). Under the final rule, the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) will acquire the HIPDB data collected prior to elimination and new data reported going forward.
The final rule expands NPDB reporting requirements to state authorities that license or certify providers and suppliers. Reporting bodies are now required to report the following regarding practitioners, entities, providers, and suppliers:
- Adverse actions;
- Criminal convictions;
- Health care-related civil judgments;
- Federal licensing or certification actions; and
- Other adjudicated actions or decisions.
The final rule is effective May 6, 2013.
