Timothy Karnes, MHA, FACHE, CHC, is a seasoned healthcare compliance specialist with deep expertise in healthcare program regulations and operational compliance. He supports healthcare organizations during critical transitions by serving as an Interim Compliance and Privacy Officer, providing executive leadership to maintain, stabilize, and strengthen compliance and privacy programs.

In this role, Mr. Karnes oversees the policies, procedures, and systems that protect the integrity, security, and confidentiality of protected health information (PHI), while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements. He brings a strong command of OIG compliance guidance and the HIPAA Privacy Rule, enabling him to assess existing programs, identify gaps, and implement practical, risk-based solutions. Recognized for his proactive, detail-oriented approach, Mr. Karnes ensures continuity, regulatory alignment, and operational integrity, helping organizations build resilient and effective compliance frameworks.

Prior to joining Strategic Management Services, Mr. Karnes held several senior leadership roles across the healthcare continuum, including serving as Corporate Compliance Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and a member of a governing board. In these capacities, he provided strategic and operational oversight, driving organizational performance while ensuring adherence to complex regulatory requirements. He also held senior executive positions with multiple hospitals across Louisiana, North Carolina, Florida, and Virginia. In addition to his executive leadership experience, Mr. Karnes has contributed to the advancement of the profession through education and public speaking. He has presented to professional organizations, including the Respiratory Therapy Association of Southcentral Pennsylvania, and served as an instructor at Cambria County Community College, sharing his expertise in healthcare compliance and operations.
