Parkview Health System Settles for $800,000 for HIPAA Violations.

Parkview Health System, Inc., has agreed to settle with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights for $800,000 for potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule.  Specifically, Parkview employees left 71 cardboard boxes of medical records unattended and accessible to unauthorized individuals on the driveway of a retired physician’s home.  The driveway was within 20 feet of the public road and close to a heavily trafficked public shopping venue.
